4 O’Clock Light is a gallery for contemporary art founded in 2017 by Diana Perry Schnelle and Wolfram Schnelle. Its goal is to bring international contemporary art to Hamburg and support contemporary artists by exposing their work to a wider audience. Exhibitions are held in a domestic setting in a private apartment in Hamburg Eimsbüttel near Schlump.
Diana and Wolfram both studied art history at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London, with a focus on Contemporary Art. Before moving to Germany, Wolfram established and ran Mummery + Schnelle, a contemporary art gallery in London, and Diana worked as an editor at Thames & Hudson, art publishers, also in London.
The name 4 O’Clock Light was inspired by a poem by Frank O’Hara, a leading member of the New York School and a curator at MoMA in New York, who was known for composing his poems during his lunch hour.
